Ann Arbor’s most spirited restaurant and dining institution since 2007; catering to a fusion of clientele including University of Michigan students and professors, locals and visitors looking to enjoy one of the town’s most beloved restaurants and memorable dining experiences.

Pastry Cook supports the daily execution of Sava’s pastry program, working under the direction of the Pastry Chef to ensure consistent quality, organization, and readiness of all pastry items. This role is responsible for precise preparation, adherence to recipes and standards, and maintaining a clean, efficient, and service-ready pastry station.

This position plays a key role in upholding Sava’s commitment to excellence by delivering consistent, high-quality products and contributing to a disciplined, team-oriented kitchen environment.

CORE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
PASTRY PRODUCTION & EXECUTION
  • Execute daily pastry prep lists with accuracy, consistency, and efficiency.
  • Follow all recipes, techniques, and plating standards as directed by the Pastry Lead.
  • Maintain high standards for product quality, freshness, and presentation.
  • Support production and execution for Sunday Brunch pastry offerings.
  • Assist with pastry service as needed, ensuring timely and accurate execution.
STATION ORGANIZATION & READINESS
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked pastry station at all times.
  • Properly label, store, and rotate all products using FIFO standards.
  • Ensure all tools, equipment, and ingredients are prepared for service.
  • Monitor inventory levels and communicate needs to leadership.
  • Uphold cleanliness and sanitation standards in all pastry areas.
SYSTEMS, STANDARDS & CONSISTENCY
  • Follow all kitchen systems, procedures, and operational standards.
  • Execute tasks with strong attention to detail and consistency.
  • Maintain organization and discipline in all aspects of the role.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety and sanitation guidelines.
  • Take ownership of assigned responsibilities and daily execution.
TEAM COLLABORATION & COMMUNICATION
  • Work collaboratively with the pastry team and broader kitchen staff.
  • Communicate clearly with the Pastry Lead and kitchen leadership.
  • Escalate issues, product concerns, or operational challenges as needed.
  • Support other kitchen stations when pastry responsibilities are complete.
  • Contribute to a positive, respectful, and team-focused work environment.

  • Arrive on time, prepared, and in proper uniform for each shift.
  • Demonstrate a strong work ethic and positive, solutions-oriented attitude.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Able to stand and move for extended periods throughout the shift.
