The Pastry Chef/ Baker is an essential member of the Be Sweet team dedicated to providing exceptional quality of baked goods and service to our guests. He/she will prepare sweet items, pastries, cakes, and breads for the front of the house, our wholesale clients, and special order clients in accordance with production requirements and quality standards while maintaining a safe, sanitary work environment.

We are looking for an individual who is passionate about baking! Attention to detail and a strong work ethic are required in this position. The Pastry Chef works together with the Executive Chef and other team members on a daily basis to ensure a flawlessly executed final product and the ability to work harmoniously with co-workers and supervisors is required. A minimum of three years of culinary or related work experience and intermediate culinary knowledge is expected for this position. A culinary institute education is preferred, but not required with relevant work experience. Candidate must have the ability to operate, maintain and properly clean the bakery equipment including ovens, proof box, and mixers. The ability to stand for 6-7 hours and lift up to 50 lbs is required.

Candidates must have valid work authorization for the U.S.

Primary Job Duties

  • Responsible for the pastry section of the kitchen
  • Prepare a variety of baked goods
  • Decorate and present pastries and baked goods in a tasteful and beautiful way
  • Monitor ingredients, supplies, and equipment and communicate needs to the Executive Pastry Chef
  • Meet with guests to discuss custom-made desserts or baked goods for special events and weddings
  • Ensure the bakery section of the kitchen adheres to health and safety regulations
  • Develop new seasonal recipes and menus and keep up with the latest trends
  • Temporary or permanent duties and responsibilities may be added to or modified as deemed necessary

Qualifications:

Includes but is not limited to:

  • Advanced knowledge of principles and practices within the pastry culinary field.
  • Ability to write routine reports, purchase orders, menus and correspondences.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English.
  • Polished appearance and demeanor.
  • Ability to obtain & maintain full knowledge and understanding of company and department rules and regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to take direction from the Executive Chef.

Preferred

  • Degree in Culinary Arts or a related field.
  • Previous experience managing a professional bakery.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • At least three years of experience as a Pastry Chef in a pastry shop, bakery or in a similar field.
