Job description

Position Announcement

First Baptist Church of Columbia, Missouri seeks candidates for the position of Pastor for Youth and Community Ministry. The position reports to Senior Pastor, Reverend Kristin McAtee.

This position will have primary responsibility for youth and supporting our community ministry as liaison to missions and administration.

Youth

The church is blessed with a growing number of Youth and committed parents seeking to continue to support faith development, fellowship opportunities and involvement in the total life of the church of our youth.

Community Ministry

The church is actively participating in local, national and international missions. With the leadership of the Missions Team we seek to strengthen our participation in bringing the love of Christ to others in the world. In partnership with administrative teams and staff, we strive for continued effective operations and facilities utilization.

We are a church built on its progressive foundations and carry that forward into the 21st century in the heart of Missouri. Located in The District – the vibrant downtown of Columbia, the church is positioned in the academic center of Missouri, surrounded by the University of Missouri, Columbia College and Stephens College.

We are a diverse congregation that celebrates that our unity does not require uniformity. We are a progressive church with a long history of women in ministry, tradition of being welcoming and affirming of the LGBTQIA+ community, a focus on social justice and commitment to ecumenism. We believe that all people are created in the image of God; thus, all are welcomed to participate fully in the life of our church and can serve in leadership. We believe in religious liberty, soul competency, priesthood of the believers and local church autonomy. The church maintains alignment with the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, American Baptist Churches and Alliance of Baptist.

Our worship services are characterized by inspirational preaching, themed-related music, integrated art and worship elements and lay participation. We explore our faith by blending biblical teaching with intellectual integrity, respecting a person’s right to think freely. We are committed to two worship services – contemporary and liturgical – that honor God and allow for various worship styles.

Our church recently celebrated 200 years of ministry. We believe we are in a strong and healthy position and prepared for continued growth. We look forward to the next chapter in our 200 years of witness and building the Kin-dom.
