Job summary

Calvary Baptist Church of Le Roy in Illinois seeks a Pastor who is an ardent student of God’s Word, expository and sequential in preaching. He will labor with the Elder Team to shepherd the local flock, oversee spiritual life and ministries, and provide biblically grounded guidance during worship and teaching.

The role includes pastoral counseling, weddings and funerals, and leadership to advance the gospel, with a commitment to doctrinal integrity, church covenant, and collective shepherding

Responsibilities

• Preacher/Teacher – preach the word of God and regularly teach subjects where pastoral perspective and biblical depth are needed.
• Pastoral Care – care for God's people, offer biblical counseling, and supervise baptisms and premarital counseling when applicable.
• Leadership/Administration – lead CBC initiatives, oversee worship services, and manage ministry health with elders.

PASTOR PROFILE

We desire a Pastor that is an ardent student of God’s Word whose preaching style is expository and sequential. He should preach boldly, with clarity and applicability, encouraging listeners to apply God's Word in their daily lives, desiring to heed the charge Paul gave to Timothy to 'preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching ... always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.' The Pastor should also love and enjoy people, relating well to them in a sincere and humble way.

The Pastor will labor with the Elders to shepherd the local flock. Together, they will be responsible to oversee the overall spiritual life, growth and ministries of the church – lay elders being available to preach, teach, counsel and instruct the members as gifts and opportunities permit.

The Pastor should possess some level of pastoral counseling skills. When a situation calls for counseling beyond the Pastor’s expertise or time limitations, the Pastor should refer individuals/families to professional biblical counselors for appropriate attention.

The Pastor will be encouraged to experience professional growth by meeting with likeminded Pastors and Elders for study, discipleship, and mutual encouragement, in addition to pertinent classes/seminars/conferences.

Preacher/Teacher – Passion for God, his word and the gospel

• He will preach the word of God, the whole counsel of God, at worship services.
• He will regularly teach subjects where pastoral perspective and biblical depth are needed.
• He will, along with the elders, protect the church from error and false teaching.
• He will, with the elders, officiate and oversee the ordinances: baptism and the Lord’s Supper.
• He will officiate at church weddings and funerals.

Pastoral Care – Compassion for God's people

• He will team with the elders in caring for God's people.
• He will be available to offer biblical counseling.
• He will meet/counsel with those interested in baptism.
• He will conduct pre-marital counseling for couples he marries.
• Along with the elders, he will correct believers who fall into sin.
• Along with the elders, he will pray for the congregation and the ministry.

Leadership/Administration

• He will lead in executing elder-endorsed CBC initiatives that advance the gospel.
• He will oversee worship services, in coordination with the worship team(s).
• Along with the elders, he will oversee the health of CBC ministries.
• He will conduct, when applicable, a new membership class for new member candidates.
