Pashto Reviewer/Editor/Certifier, DOJ LSS

Summary: The Unconventional (TU) is seeking a qualified Reviewer/Editor/Certifier to support the Department of Justice (DOJ) with Translation, Interpretation, Transcription, and other Linguistic Support Services (LSS). Activities include translating documents and media content, as well as court and deposition interpretation. Source materials involve legal, medical, scientific, financial, historical, geographical, and military terminology, including technology-related concepts in sciences such as chemistry, physics, and cyber.

The material to be translated or interpreted is legal in nature and may include various formats like books, reports, legal documents, multimedia presentations, emails, and audio/video files. The content can range from highly technical to informal and street language, often involving sensitive information requiring strict confidentiality.

Requirements:
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the required language within the past ten years, with superior skills in English and editing.
  • ILR 4 or equivalent score in language/translation tests.
  • Resided in the U.S. for at least 3 of the last 5 years (not necessarily consecutive).
  • At least 1 year of experience working with law enforcement or legal departments.
  • U.S. citizenship.
  • Proficiency in formal, legal, diplomatic, and casual communication modes in both English and the foreign language, including slang and regionalisms.
  • Knowledge of specialized vocabulary in both languages related to government roles and missions, with research and analytical skills.
  • Fluent in native language writing, with professional command of the non-native language.
  • Ability to translate accurately, preserving tone and register, and abide by linguist ethics.
  • Proficiency in Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) tools, especially SDL Trados Studio.

Clearance: Active Public Trust or higher security clearance.

Location: Remote / National Capitol Region / Various CONUS Locations.

Travel: Some travel may be required.
