Job description

Position: Shipping and Receiving Clerk

The Shipping and Receiving Clerk verifies and keeps records on incoming and outgoing shipments and prepares items for shipment.

Responsibilities:
  1. Count, weigh, and measure items in incoming and outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, and other records.
  2. Determine the method of shipment, utilizing knowledge of shipping procedures, routes, and rates.
  3. Select containers and assemble if necessary.
  4. Pack items into containers, using the appropriate spacers, fillers, and protective padding.
  5. Secure containers and apply proper shipping labels.
  6. Post weights and shipping charges and affix postage.
  7. Unpack and examine incoming shipments, reject damaged items, record shortages, and correspond with shippers to rectify damages and shortages.
  8. Ensure that outgoing shipments meet specifications.
  9. Operate tier-lift trucks or use hand trucks to move, convey, or hoist loads for shipping and receiving platforms to storage or work areas.
  10. Receive damaged or defective goods returned to the establishment.
  11. Receive unsold products returned by the Parts Driver.
  12. Perform any other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications:
  • Current, valid driver's license and satisfactory Motor Vehicle Report (MVR).
  • The physical demands include being able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • High school degree (required).
  • Related experience or parts warehouse experience preferred but not required.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees and individual customers.
