Job Summary :

Our Client's firm is seeking to hire an experienced and accomplished attorney to assume a Partner role in our New York construction litigation practice with extensive experience handling all aspects in the defense of personal injury actions arising under the New York Labor Law [namely, Sections §200, 240(1) and 241(6)]. Their clients in these matters include property owners, general contractors, subcontractors, and municipalities.

This is a remote position, but the candidate must live within a commutable distance to Long Island, NY for occasional in-office meetings.

Job Responsibilities :

  1. Litigating New York Labor Law cases from inception to resolution, including handling all aspects of pleadings, discovery, depositions, court appearances, motions, mediations, etc.
  2. Engaging in all aspects of risk transfer (tendering to appropriate parties and carriers, commencing third-party actions, litigating issues with respect to indemnification and insurance coverage, etc.)
  3. Draft and review legal documents including pleadings, motions, and other court filings with attention to detail and accuracy.
  4. Accurately track and record time worked while understanding and applying billable hours principles to ensure proper invoicing and compliance.
  5. Conduct thorough research on applicable laws, regulations, and case precedents to develop effective legal strategies.
  6. Act as the primary point of contact with claims representatives and insured clients to share legal strategies and insights, providing guidance and support throughout the litigation process. Develop and present clear, concise, and actionable legal opinions and strategies.
  7. Oversee and mentor junior attorneys and collaborate with partners on strategy for complex construction labor law cases.

Minimum Qualifications :

  1. Must be currently barred in New York.
  2. Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school is required.
  3. A minimum of 6 years of experience litigating New York labor law actions.

Preferred Skills :

  1. Experience conducting training sessions to enhance understanding of legal processes and procedures within legal, claims, or other relevant departments.
  2. Ability to apply inclusive legal strategies that consider diverse perspectives and community needs.
  3. Strong organizational and time management skills to effectively manage caseloads and deadlines.
  4. Experience managing communications and collaboration with claims representatives and key stakeholders to support case resolution.
