Job summary

Town of Clayton is seeking a part-time Library Assistant - Youth Services at the Library Department in Clayton, NC. Salary is set at SG 100 with an hourly pay rate of $15.50, and duties include helping patrons, teaching use of online resources, and assisting with youth programs.

Ideal candidates will have strong customer service, clerical experience, and knowledge of library procedures. Minimum is a high school diploma or GED, with clerical/public service experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Great customer services skills; greet and direct patrons; help patrons feel welcomed.
• Knowledge of library procedures, materials, and practices.
• Working knowledge of circulation, reader's advisory, and library databases.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and patrons.

Responsibilities

• Checks books, CDs, and video equipment in and out; assists patrons with materials and tech use.
• Assists patrons with book selection, research, and needs.
• Assists patrons with technology use and troubleshooting.
• Enrolls new patrons, issues cards, takes fines and fees, updates patron database.
• Closes out cash register; counts and records cash.
• Enacts library policies and procedures.
• Instructs patrons in use of online catalog, databases, and eBook/audiobook platforms.
• Directs patrons to library resources and answers questions.
• Locates and inputs information into computer; uses Internet for quick reference questions.
• Answers telephone and provides general library information.
• Monitors patrons for policy adherence.
• May assist in preparing and presenting programs for children, teens, or adults.
• May be staff member in charge of presenting programs.
• Performs related tasks as required.
