Job summary

The Pennsylvania State University is seeking part-time Youth Program instructors for grades 3-12, from June 2026 through August 2026. Instructors will teach diverse subjects such as STEM programming, arts, writing, and leadership. Responsibilities include curriculum development, supply management, and supervision of minors. A strong emphasis is placed on interpersonal skills and an advanced degree is preferred. Job Description and Position Requirements

Penn State Abington seeks to hire part‑time Youth Program instructors for grades 3‑12 from June 2026 through August 2026. Topics to be taught include STEM programming, arts, writing, leadership and soft skills, wellness, and others.

Job Duties
  • Instructors are responsible for assisting with creating and implementing program curriculum and lessons, managing supplies, and the supervision of minors participating in programs.
  • Instructors must work collaboratively with the Youth Program Director, Student counselors, and Continuing Education staff to create an inviting, enjoyable and educational environment for students.
  • Attend team meetings as expected by Youth Program Director.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills are required.
  • Must be outgoing, work well with children, have strong customer service skills, and be a self‑starter.
  • For most openings, an advanced degree in an appropriate discipline, from an accredited institution, is required.
  • Prior teaching experience is strongly preferred.
  • Summer instructors are needed for daytime in‑person programming from Monday through Thursday June 22 through August 13 2025, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Additionally, they must attend a one‑day in‑person staff orientation at Penn State Abington, scheduled between June 15th and June 18th, prior to the start of the camp sessions. Should there be any conflicts during this time frame, we can address them further during the interview.
  • To be considered for this opening, applicants must apply online and submit a resume including any teaching experience, and a cover letter stating the types of programs that you are interested in teaching.
  • Instructors will be required to attend a mandatory staff orientation prior to the camp season.

Scope of youth programs is dependent on course content and varies in length. Multiple vacancies are available for various programs. Employment is also contingent upon adequate student enrollment in the Youth Programs.

Background Checks / Clearances

This position requires the following clearances in addition to applicable background checks: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check.
