Job summary

Blount County Government in Maryville, TN seeks a Part-Time Youth Services Specialist to provide high quality face-to-face customer service and access to library programs and resources. The role includes planning storytimes, assisting with checkouts, outreach, developing lesson plans for STEAM and crafts, supervising the Teen Room, and coordinating with PR; 29 hours weekly.

Qualifications

• One (1) year of experience or equivalent training/education/experience.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Proficient knowledge of library organization, resources, and systems.

Responsibilities

• Assist patrons with questions and finding materials using the library catalog, databases, and online resources.
• Assist patrons with checking out materials using the self-checkout machine.
• Plan and implement storytimes for all ages and prepare crafts and activities.
• Participate in outreach events at preschools, daycares, schools, and community events.
• Coordinate with PR to create flyers, brochures, and social media posts.
• Develop and teach lesson plans for STEAM, LEGO, arts and crafts, and book clubs for ages 0 months to 18 years.
• Supervise the Teen Room after school and during programming.
• Maintain the collection by shelving, checking in/out, and weeding.
• Answer phones and relay messages; compile data related to programming.
• Assist in other library departments as needed and help patrons with computer use and internet research.
