Job summary

Children of Promise, NYC is seeking an Art Activity Specialist to lead visual arts sessions for youth in Brooklyn and the South Bronx. This part-time, on-site role runs Monday through Friday, 10–15 hours weekly, crafting engaging lessons aligned with NYS Arts Learning Standards.

You will manage materials, enforce safety, encourage creativity, and support students during after-school hours. Compensation ranges from $25 to $30 per hour, and CP NYC is an equal opportunity employer.

Qualifications

• Must have experience successfully teaching and instructing youth in the visual arts.
• Must be responsible, reliable, and punctual.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.
• Associate Degree required; two years of related experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Establish and enforce behavior rules and classroom order.
• Develop age-appropriate art lessons and creative projects.
• Teach various artistic techniques and mediums.
• Encourage creativity, self-expression, and confidence through art.
• Prepare art supplies and maintain classrooms for activities.
• Explain principles, techniques, and safety procedures to participants.
• Greet new arrivals and encourage participation.
• Evaluate activities and adapt to students' needs.
• Support progressive development leading to a final project.
• Provide support during academic and homework hours.
• Promote positive character development in all youth.
