Job summary

Ivy Tech Community College in Indiana is seeking a part-time Writing Tutor to assist students face-to-face, virtually, and asynchronously. The tutor will follow the Writing Center protocol and support the full writing process.

Responsibilities include tutoring sessions, reporting per student, collaborating with faculty, participating in training, and attending department meetings. The role emphasizes customer service, inclusivity, and helping students succeed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s in English or a writing related field.
• Experience tutoring in a writing center environment.
• Strong working knowledge of technologies required to complete administrative tasks.
• Strong interpersonal and written communication skills are required.
• Understanding of Writing Center Pedagogy.
• Experience working with community college students.

Responsibilities

• Tutor students with writing assignments following the established protocol in the Writing Center.
• Facilitate one-on-one support and student learning throughout the entire writing process.
• Complete a written report for each student upon the conclusion of each session.
• Collaborate with faculty and staff when necessary to ensure best possible outcomes for students.
• Participate in the Writing Center’s training and professional development throughout the semester.
• Utilize observation feedback to promote ongoing growth and tutor development.
• Attend and participate in department meetings.
• Demonstrate strong customer service and/or student advocacy through a positive attitude of approachability, adaptability, strong problem-solving, collaboration, and desire to identify and support student success.
• Engage in behaviors that create an inclusive environment in which all people are valued, supported, and empowered to succeed.
• Take initiative to go beyond the easiest or surface answer for a student or stakeholder, and get to the root cause of the problem, question, or issue to solve it as quickly and professionally as possible.
