Job summary

Newman University in Wichita, KS seeks an Assistant Wrestling Coach (part-time, 12-month exempt) to support the wrestling program under the Head Coach. The role focuses on developing student-athletes athletically, academically, and personally while upholding NCAA Division II and institutional standards.

You will help manage practices, recruit and mentor student-athletes, coordinate travel, and collaborate with campus partners.

Qualifications

• Some college coursework required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Experience competing in wrestling at the collegiate level preferred.
• Knowledge of wrestling fundamentals and the ability to teach student-athletes.
• Understanding of NCAA Division II rules and regulations, or ability to complete required certification.
• Strong communication, organizational, mentoring, and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to evaluate athletic talent and support student-athletes' academic and athletic success.
• Valid driver's license and ability to pass a motor vehicle records check.
• Authorization to work in the United States.
• Ability to perform office and athletic coaching duties, including lifting up to 30 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Assist in daily operation and management of the NCAA Division II wrestling program, including practices, competition preparation, and athlete development.
• Recruit, retain, and mentor qualified student-athletes while ensuring compliance with NCAA, conference, and institutional regulations.
• Support student-athletes' academic progress, personal development, and overall well-being.
• Coordinate and assist with team travel, scheduling, camps, clinics, community engagement activities, fundraising efforts, and special events.
• Collaborate with Athletics staff, Admissions, Compliance, Athletic Performance, and other campus departments to support program success.
• Maintain accurate compliance documentation and complete required university and NCAA trainings.
• Serve as a positive role model who demonstrates professionalism, sportsmanship, ethical conduct, and commitment to the University's mission.
