Overview

Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota, seeks to hire a Part-Time Weekend Custodian to provide cleaning, waste and recyclable removal services, snow clearing of all entrances, carpeting and hard floor maintenance, and other traditional tasks as needed.

Part-Time Weekend Shift:

Saturday & Sunday 6:30am to 5:00pm (20 hours a week)

Compensation: The starting pay rate is $20.00/hour during the 6-month probationary period. Post-probation, it increases to $21.00/hour. At this point, the position becomes a union role. After 1 year from hire, the wage may vary based on the shift and union contract ($25.77).

This is a union position. If a regular position is offered/accepted during the probation, the successful candidate must join the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 70.

Responsibilities

• Routine cleaning including dusting, vacuuming, disinfecting surfaces, trash removal, floor care, restroom and shower cleaning, elevator interior and pit cleaning.
• Periodic duties such as window washing, floor stripping and refinishing, light bulb replacement, snow removal, and event setups.
• Maintain supply requests and ensure adequate stock.
• Observe building conditions, submit work orders, perform minor repairs, and report damages or safety issues.
• Secure keys, manage lock-up and opening procedures.
• Coordinate with Facilities Services student employees.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Preferably 1+ year custodial/janitorial experience.
• Proficient in English reading, writing, and speaking.
• Experience with automatic and power cleaning equipment.
• Ability to stand or walk for long periods.
• Ability to write short maintenance work orders.
• Physical abilities include bending, twisting, squatting, crawling, climbing, and lifting 50 lbs (e.g., mop bucket, boxes, trash containers).
• Must pass a criminal background check per Kari Koskinen Act.
• Valid Minnesota Driver’s License required.
