Position Overview

We are seeking a Virginia Licensed Building contractor to support content development and teach Livestream / in-class pre‑licensing curriculum for CTC’s Virginia Residential and Commercial Building Contractor exam prep courses. Candidates must hold an active Virginia Contractor’s license and have taken a Virginia Contractor’s exam to understand the licensing process. Ideal candidates will have extensive knowledge of the industry, regulations, and standards of practice. Instructors will lead exam preparation classes to help students prepare for and pass their Virginia Contractors Licensing exams. Instructors may occasionally be asked to assist with updating course content as needed and may also script and film instructional video content to enhance the online student experience. CTC instructors are ambassadors for both CTC and for the construction industry, as most learners’ first introduction to the business is through the experienced eyes of their instructor. The ideal candidate will be able to articulate concepts clearly and with authority and engage students respectfully and collaboratively.

Position Requirements & Major Responsibilities
  • Teach assigned courses according to the curriculum plan.
  • Actively engage with students both online and in class.
  • Implement teaching strategies that will assist the student in meeting established course objectives.
  • Mentor students and mitigate potential performance issues.
  • Teaching via Zoom; present materials and facilitate active discussions to increase students' knowledge and competence in preparation for the exam.
  • Observe and evaluate student’s work to determine progress, provide feedback, and make suggestions for improvement, as needed.
  • Authoring and auditing assessment items, answers, and rationales for the commercial or residential contractor’s exam.
  • Authoring tutorial videos and mini‑lessons, including highlighting guides, to help students prepare for their contractor’s exam.
  • Enforce school policies and state regulations.
Qualifications
  • All instructors shall be qualified by education or experience to teach the courses or parts of the courses to which the instructor is assigned.
  • Any person with a Four‑Year College Degree or Graduate Degree is qualified to teach any course within their field of study.
  • Any active or inactive Virginia Contractor with at least 3 years of experience may teach any technical course regarding construction within the scope of the contractor's license.
  • At least 2 years of experience interacting with the subject matter either as a contractor, inspector, engineer, program administrator or business professional.
  • Previous experience in teaching, which sufficiently establishes the individual as one with public presentation skills.
