Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Philadelphia, PA is seeking a Part-Time Surgery Veterinary Technician to join our Surgery Team. The role involves nursing care for surgery patients and post-operative communication, with the expectation of at least two years of experience in a veterinary hospital.

On the Surgery Team, you will assist with anesthesia monitoring, IV catheters, and fluid therapy, functioning both independently and as part of a collaborative group dedicated to high-quality pet care.

Qualifications

• Minimum two years of veterinary hospital experience.
• Ability to intubate and monitor anesthesia.
• Strong client communication for post-operative care.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to surgery patients according to hospital standards.
• Able to intubate patient and monitor anesthesia for surgical procedures.
• Utilize ability to place peripheral intravenous catheter in cephalic vein.
• Performs physical exams and monitors vital signs.
• Monitor patient response to fluid therapy and overall condition.

A BluePearl Surgery Technician is responsible for some post-operative client communication and must be able to work independently while contributing to a larger team goal. Prefer to have a minimum of two or more years of experience in a veterinary hospital.

As a Part-Time Surgery Veterinary Technician, you will:

• Provide nursing care to surgery patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
• Able to intubate patient and monitor anesthesia for surgical procedures
• Utilize their ability to place peripheral intravenous catheter in cephalic vein.
• Performs physical exam; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
• Understands normal vital parameters and alerts doctor when abnormal.
• Able to set up intravenous fluids.
• Administers subcutaneous fluids.
• Can operate all brands of intravenous fluid pumps and can troubleshoot errors.
• Able to disconnect and connect patient from intravenous fluids aseptically.
• Ability to monitor patient response to fluid therapy including signs of overload.
