Job summary

West Haven Community House in West Haven, CT is seeking a Part-time Van Driver. You will transport individuals safely to and from their homes, follow protocol, and coordinate with the Day Supervisor.

Shifts run Monday through Friday with a 7am-9am and 2:30pm-4:30pm split, totaling 20 hours weekly. Ideal candidates have a valid CT license, clean driving record, CPR certification, and prior experience with adults with intellectual disabilities.

Qualifications

• Must have and maintain a valid Connecticut Driver’s License and clean driving record.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain authorization from leased vehicle company to drive handicapped van.
• Must be at least 21 years of age and three years minimum holding a valid driver's license.
• Must obtain and maintain CPR.
• Experience with adults with intellectual disabilities preferred.

Responsibilities

• Knows and follows emergency procedures, accident reporting requirements and pick up/drop off procedures.
• Maintains required training and attends all meeting/trainings days as required by program.
• Ensures that individuals get on and off the vehicle in a safe manner. Ensures that seat belts are always worn by everyone when the vehicle is in use.
• Follows all motor vehicle laws while driving and pulls over when calling or responding to a call.
• Maintains First Aid, OSHA and cleaning supplies in vehicles and regularly reports the status of fire extinguishers.
• Performs vehicle checklist daily and submits checklist weekly to Director of Facilities and Operations. Completes required vehicle documentation and submits repair/maintenance requests in a timely manner to the Director of Facilities and Operations.
• Performs routine maintenance of vehicles, i.e., checks oil levels weekly and replenishes when low, fills gas tank whenever the gauge reads ½ tank. Checks washer fluid and replenish when needed. Keeps the vehicle clean inside and out.
• Knows and complies with all policies and procedures noted in the West Haven Community House driver handbook.
• Performs other duties as required.
