Job description

Part-Time Upper School Humanities Teacher 25-26

Responsibilities: Moses Brown seeks a part-time (.7 FTE) Humanities teacher to start in September 2025. The successful applicant will teach 3 sections each semester at multiple levels (9th-12th grade).
The Humanities Department at Moses Brown encompasses history, religion, ethics and psychology courses. The fundamental purpose of the Humanities department is to empower our students to make sense of the world they inherit. We seek to provide them with the tools to grapple with the kind of society they want to create, and the kind of person they want to be within it. Our Friends values inform our pedagogy through uplifting marginalized voices, including multiple perspectives, and bringing light to social justice issues. We hold tremendous responsibility to ensure we are instilling the care for learning, people, and place through the crafting and teaching of our curricula. We value the ability to teach history and another of the humanities disciplines.
Working collaboratively with other members of the Humanities department is important to our school culture. In addition, teachers work closely with students outside of the classroom during office hours and for occasional extra help outside of these times.

In addition to the core teaching responsibilities, Moses Brown teachers have yearly co-curricular responsibilities. Full-time Upper School faculty are asked to lead an advisory starting in their second year at the school. Teachers are expected to serve on committees, and attend school meetings, some of which take place after school.

Qualifications: Candidates should have a relevant academic background and a demonstrated commitment to cultural competency. We seek applicants who are able to foster intellectual curiosity in students, and will engage them in thinking critically about the world. A focus on strong verbal and written communication skills is essential. A broad range of experience teaching history and/or related fields from non-dominant perspectives will be helpful.

Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree from a four-year accredited institution. Two to five years of teaching experience is preferred, although not a requirement for application. Master’s degree or beyond is desirable. We seek candidates who are passionate about their desire to teach, advise, and learn from high school students, committed to working collaboratively, and eager to embrace and forward the Quaker mission of the school.
Compensation: Moses Brown offers a competitive compensation and benefits package to our faculty and staff. Compensation is based on the number of years of experience.

To apply: To apply, please visit the Moses Brown employment page at www.mosesbrown.org, where you can upload a resume, cover letter that serves as a statement of interest, and the names and contact information for 3 references.
