Responsibilities
Summary
The Transportation Officer is responsible for securely transporting detainees and ensuring vehicle safety and maintenance.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct vehicle inspections before, during, and after trips.
- Provide Daily Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR) and report safety defects.
- Ensure all permits and licenses are valid before trips and notify the supervisor of any issues.
- Verify safety equipment availability and report problems.
- Complete all paperwork accurately and timely.
- Properly secure detainees during transport and ensure all documentation is complete.
- Follow safety laws, regulations, and policies during transport.
- Report accidents immediately with detailed information.
- Perform vehicle servicing and pickups.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Three years of experience handling prisoners or in law enforcement, corrections, detention, or military police.
- At least 21 years old.
- U.S. citizen with a valid driver’s license.
- 80 hours of verified driver’s training.
- State Firearms and Security Guard Licenses.
- Completion of approved training in Corrections, Law Enforcement, or Military.
- Clean driving record for the past three years.
- Pass company and DOT drug tests.
- Ability to work overtime, travel, and handle physical and mental stress.
- Work up to 16 hours in a 24-hour period, be alert, mature, flexible, and able to command respect.
- Proficiency with computers and software used by the department.
- May need to obtain a USDOT medical examiner certificate.
