Responsibilities
Summary
The Transportation Officer is responsible for securely transporting detainees and ensuring vehicle safety and maintenance.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct pre-trip, during-trip, and post-trip vehicle inspections.
- Provide written Daily Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR) and report safety defects.
- Ensure all permits and licenses are valid before trips; notify the supervisor of any issues.
- Verify safety equipment is present and functional before trips; report any problems.
- Complete all paperwork accurately and timely.
- Secure detainees properly during transportation and ensure all documentation is complete.
- Follow all safety laws, policies, and procedures during transportation.
- Report accidents immediately with detailed information.
- Manage vehicle servicing and pickup/delivery.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Three years’ experience handling prisoners or in law enforcement, corrections, detention, or military police.
- At least 21 years old.
- U.S. citizenship and valid driver license.
- 80 hours of certified driver’s training.
- State Firearms and Security Guard Licenses.
- Completion of certified training in Corrections, Law Enforcement, or Military.
- Clean driving record with no recent preventable accidents or violations.
- Pass DOT drug and alcohol testing.
- Ability to work overtime, travel, and handle physical and mental stress.
- Reliable attendance and alertness during shifts.
- Ability to work up to 16 hours within a 24-hour period.
- Ability to work with computers and obtain a USDOT medical card if required.
