Responsibilities

Summary

The Transportation Officer is responsible for securely transporting detainees and ensuring vehicle safety and maintenance.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Conduct pre-trip, during-trip, and post-trip vehicle inspections.
• Provide written Daily Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR) and report safety defects.
• Ensure all permits and licenses are valid before trips; notify the supervisor of any issues.
• Verify safety equipment is present and functional before trips; report any problems.
• Complete all paperwork accurately and timely.
• Secure detainees properly during transportation and ensure all documentation is complete.
• Follow all safety laws, policies, and procedures during transportation.
• Report accidents immediately with detailed information.
• Manage vehicle servicing and pickup/delivery.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Three years’ experience handling prisoners or in law enforcement, corrections, detention, or military police.
• At least 21 years old.
• U.S. citizenship and valid driver license.
• 80 hours of certified driver’s training.
• State Firearms and Security Guard Licenses.
• Completion of certified training in Corrections, Law Enforcement, or Military.
• Clean driving record with no recent preventable accidents or violations.
• Pass DOT drug and alcohol testing.
• Ability to work overtime, travel, and handle physical and mental stress.
• Reliable attendance and alertness during shifts.
• Ability to work up to 16 hours within a 24-hour period.
• Ability to work with computers and obtain a USDOT medical card if required.
