Responsibilities
Summary
The Transportation Officer is responsible for securely transporting detainees and maintaining vehicle safety and functionality.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct pre-trip, during-trip, and post-trip vehicle inspections.
- Provide written Daily Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR) and report safety defects.
- Ensure permits and licenses are valid before trips; notify management of issues.
- Verify safety equipment is in place; report problems.
- Complete all required paperwork accurately and timely.
- Secure detainees properly during transport and ensure paperwork is complete.
- Follow all safety laws, policies, and procedures during transportation.
- Report accidents immediately with detailed information.
- Handle vehicle servicing and other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent and applicable state employment requisites.
- Three years of handling prisoners or law enforcement experience.
- At least 21 years old and a U.S. citizen.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license and 80 hours of certified driver’s training.
- State Firearms and Security Guard Licenses.
- Completion of approved training in Corrections, Law Enforcement, or Military.
- Clean driving record with no recent preventable accidents or violations.
- Pass company and DOT drug/alcohol tests.
- Ability to work overtime, travel, and handle physical and mental stress.
- Ability to work up to 16 hours in a 24-hour period and be punctual.
- Physical alertness, maturity, flexibility, and respectfulness.
- Proficiency with computers and software used by the department.
