Responsibilities

Summary

The Transportation Officer is responsible for securely transporting detainees and maintaining vehicle safety and functionality.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Conduct pre-trip, during-trip, and post-trip vehicle inspections.
• Provide written Daily Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR) and report safety defects.
• Ensure permits and licenses are valid before trips; notify management of issues.
• Verify safety equipment is in place; report problems.
• Complete all required paperwork accurately and timely.
• Secure detainees properly during transport and ensure paperwork is complete.
• Follow all safety laws, policies, and procedures during transportation.
• Report accidents immediately with detailed information.
• Handle vehicle servicing and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent and applicable state employment requisites.
• Three years of handling prisoners or law enforcement experience.
• At least 21 years old and a U.S. citizen.
• Valid U.S. driver’s license and 80 hours of certified driver’s training.
• State Firearms and Security Guard Licenses.
• Completion of approved training in Corrections, Law Enforcement, or Military.
• Clean driving record with no recent preventable accidents or violations.
• Pass company and DOT drug/alcohol tests.
• Ability to work overtime, travel, and handle physical and mental stress.
• Ability to work up to 16 hours in a 24-hour period and be punctual.
• Physical alertness, maturity, flexibility, and respectfulness.
• Proficiency with computers and software used by the department.
