Responsibilities
Summary
The Transportation Officer is responsible for securely transporting detainees and ensuring vehicles are safe and well-maintained.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct pre-trip, during-trip, and post-trip vehicle inspections.
- Provide Daily Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR) and report safety defects.
- Ensure all permits and licenses are valid before trips; notify management of issues.
- Verify safety equipment is in place before trips; report problems.
- Complete and submit all reports accurately and timely.
- Properly secure detainees during transport and complete all documentation accurately.
- Follow all safety laws, policies, and procedures during transport.
- Report accidents immediately, providing detailed verbal and written information.
- Manage vehicle servicing and pick-up.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; valid state requisites for employment.
- Three (3) years of experience handling prisoners or as a Law Enforcement, Corrections, Detention, or Military Police Officer.
- At least twenty-one (21) years old.
- U.S. citizenship.
- Valid U.S. driver license.
- 80 hours of verified driver’s training from an approved provider.
- State Firearms License.
- State Security Guard License.
- Completion of an approved training program in Corrections, Law Enforcement, or Military.
- Certification in Corrections, Law Enforcement, or Military.
- Clean driving record with no preventable accidents or suspensions for the past three years.
- Passing DOT drug and alcohol tests.
- Ability to work overtime, travel extended periods, and handle physical and mental stress.
- Dependability in reporting to work on time and alertness during shifts.
- Capability to work up to 16 hours within a 24-hour period.
- Mature, flexible, able to command respect, and tolerate mental stress.
- Proficient with computers and relevant software.
- Possibly obtain a USDOT medical examiner certificate after hire.
