Responsibilities

Summary

The Transportation Officer is responsible for securely transporting detainees and ensuring vehicles are safe and well-maintained.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct pre-trip, during-trip, and post-trip vehicle inspections.
  • Provide Daily Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR) and report safety defects.
  • Ensure all permits and licenses are valid before trips; notify management of issues.
  • Verify safety equipment is in place before trips; report problems.
  • Complete and submit all reports accurately and timely.
  • Properly secure detainees during transport and complete all documentation accurately.
  • Follow all safety laws, policies, and procedures during transport.
  • Report accidents immediately, providing detailed verbal and written information.
  • Manage vehicle servicing and pick-up.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; valid state requisites for employment.
  • Three (3) years of experience handling prisoners or as a Law Enforcement, Corrections, Detention, or Military Police Officer.
  • At least twenty-one (21) years old.
  • U.S. citizenship.
  • Valid U.S. driver license.
  • 80 hours of verified driver’s training from an approved provider.
  • State Firearms License.
  • State Security Guard License.
  • Completion of an approved training program in Corrections, Law Enforcement, or Military.
  • Certification in Corrections, Law Enforcement, or Military.
  • Clean driving record with no preventable accidents or suspensions for the past three years.
  • Passing DOT drug and alcohol tests.
  • Ability to work overtime, travel extended periods, and handle physical and mental stress.
  • Dependability in reporting to work on time and alertness during shifts.
  • Capability to work up to 16 hours within a 24-hour period.
  • Mature, flexible, able to command respect, and tolerate mental stress.
  • Proficient with computers and relevant software.
  • Possibly obtain a USDOT medical examiner certificate after hire.
