Responsibilities
Summary
The Transportation Officer is responsible for securely transporting detainees and ensuring vehicles are safe and well-maintained.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct pre-trip, during-trip, and post-trip inspections of all vehicles.
- Provide written Daily Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR) and report safety defects.
- Ensure all permits and licenses are valid before trips; notify the Transportation Manager of issues.
- Verify vehicles have necessary safety equipment; report problems beforehand.
- Complete all paperwork accurately and submit reports per policies.
- Secure detainees properly during transport; ensure all documentation is complete.
- Follow all safety laws and policies during transport.
- Report accidents immediately with detailed information.
- Deliver vehicles for servicing and pick them up post-maintenance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least three (3) years' experience in law enforcement, corrections, detention, or military police.
- Minimum age 21; U.S. citizen; valid U.S. driver license.
- 80 hours of verified driver’s training.
- State Firearms and Security Guard Licenses.
- Completion of approved training in Corrections, Law Enforcement, or Military.
- Clean driving record for past three years.
- Pass company and DOT drug and alcohol tests.
- Ability to work overtime and extended travel with overnight stays.
- Handle physical and mental stress; punctuality; alertness.
- Ability to work up to 16 hours within a 24-hour period.
- Ability to work with computers.
- May require obtaining a USDOT medical certificate.
