This position is considered a Safety-Sensitive position. Applicants who pass the interview process will be subject to drug and alcohol testing.
The purpose of this position is to provide safe, courteous, and on-time transportation to the general public.
Essential Functions:- Must be able to communicate with others in spoken and written English to ensure the safe and efficient operations of the business.
- Operates transit vehicles to transport passengers over established routes according to set time schedules.
- Collect fares, issues transfers; provides verbal information to the public regarding routes, schedules, and transfer points.
- Monitors radio communication while on route to ensure safe and timely arrival and departure times.
- Conducts routine pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections and associated documentation on assigned vehicle.
- Cleans assigned vehicle after completion of daily assignment or as necessary.
- Regulates heating and cooling for passenger comfort.
- Completes incident and accident reports.
- Reports mechanical defects to immediate supervisor.
- Monitors pre-established fares and records money, tokens, and transfers received.
- Provides special care to elderly and individuals with disabilities; operates wheelchair lift equipment for passengers using mobility devices and those unable to use the stairs.
- Attends meetings and training functions as assigned.
- Performs other work as assigned.
Physical Demands:- Performs work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves repetitive operation of mass transit vehicle.
- Sits for extended periods of time, lifts or pulls up to 40 pounds, performs repetitive body movements to operate controls, works independently with a minimum of breaks, operates a transit vehicle in heavy traffic and in emergency or hazardous situations or conditions.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:High School Diploma or GED preferred.
Special Certifications and Licenses: Requires current CPR and Standard First Aid certifications or the ability to acquire within six (6) months of hire date.
Certifications for the below items are offered with employment: Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Class A, B, or C CDL driver's license for public transportation in the State of Tennessee with a P endorsement within 30 days of employment.
