Job description

University Transit Service (UTS) at the University of Virginia's Department of Parking and Transportation is searching for reliable Part-Time Transit Bus Drivers.

Position Overview: The Part-Time Transit Bus Driver provides transportation services to the University of Virginia Community, operating transit units on fixed routes and supporting University-wide events. Work hours are up to 28 hours per week.

Compensation: Starts at $23.25/hour for drivers requiring CDL training components, and $25.00/hour for drivers with CDL Class A or B, Air Brakes, and Passengers endorsements. Minimum Qualifications:

• Valid Driver's License with a good driving record (zero or positive points).
• Ability to obtain a Class A or B CDL with Passengers and Air Brakes endorsements within 30-45 days.
• Knowledge of highway regulations; effective communication skills; ability to record route data; follow verbal instructions; provide courteous customer service.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to operate transit vehicles comfortably.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 8-20 months of experience as a transit or charter bus driver.
• Strong customer service experience.
• Class A or B CDL with endorsements and a positive driving record.
• Knowledge of University Transit routes and procedures.

Physical Demands:

Safe bus operation involves sitting, steering, repetitive motions, and physical strength for bending, lifting, and carrying, especially during special events or ADA service requirements. Climbing stairs and physical agility are necessary for boarding and operating ADA equipment.
