Part Time Thrift Store Clerk & Warehouse Worker - Milledgeville, GA

Location: The Salvation Army Milledgeville Service Center
About this opportunity:

Assist store customers with donations, selections, and purchases. Operate and maintain the cash register, respond to customer inquiries, maintain store displays, and ensure the security of store items and cash. Participate in unloading trucks, processing incoming merchandise, moving furniture, and maintaining cleanliness and order in the store, warehouse, and parking lot.

Key responsibilities:
  1. Ring up sales, handle cash, prepare receipts, and manage the cash drawer according to procedures.
  2. Maintain sales records, tax forms, and prepare sales reports as needed.
  3. Keep the cash register area tidy and stocked.
  4. Assist customers with store policies, pricing, and purchases to ensure a positive shopping experience.
  5. Accept donations, provide receipts, and direct customers to loading areas.
  6. Arrange and display items neatly, rotate stock, and ensure displays are maintained.
  7. Answer store phone courteously, assist with questions, and schedule donation pickups if required.
  8. Clean display racks, floors, windows, and mirrors to maintain a welcoming environment.
  9. Open and close the store as scheduled.
  10. Unload donations carefully, process incoming merchandise, and keep the dock area organized.
  11. Assist with moving furniture and loading heavy items for customers.
  12. Maintain cleanliness in parking lot, bike racks, and restrooms.
  13. Empty drop boxes daily and assist with pricing and tagging items.
  14. Support disaster relief projects and supervise volunteers or part-time staff.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned to support store operations.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D., or equivalent experience.
  • Retail experience preferred.
  • Ability to operate a cash register, perform basic math, and lift heavy items (50-100+ lbs.).
Physical Requirements & Conditions:

Must meet attendance requirements, communicate effectively in English, and perform walking, standing, kneeling, or squatting. Work involves lifting heavy donations, working in store and warehouse environments with noise, dust, and dirt.
