Job summary

The Salvation Army in Michigan is seeking a part-time Thrift Store Associate to help with donations, price merchandise, operate the register, and assist customers. This role supports our Emergency Shelter programs by channeling proceeds back into community services.

You will cross-train across store areas, maintain cleanliness, and build positive donor relations while providing friendly service. Prior retail experience is preferred, flexibility and teamwork are valued.

Qualifications

• Retail or customer service experience preferred but not required.
• Ability to lift and move donations as needed.
• Strong communication and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Cross train and work in all areas of store as needed.
• Accept and evaluate donations.
• Maintain donation area cleanliness during store hours.
• Ensure inventory quality by merchandise standards when accepting donations.
• Clean, price and display merchandise.
• Arrange and display merchandise throughout the store as assigned.
• Operate cash register, assist with sales and cash reconciliation.
• Answer phone lines and provide customer service.
• Assist customers on the sales floor and suggest sales when appropriate.
• Build positive donor relations by providing information about donations.
• Support a team environment among store associates.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings.
• Interact with donors courteously on their property.
• Ensure safe work environment by keeping aisles clear.
• Load and unload donations from truck.
