Assignments could include but are not limited to: the dish room, kitchen, vegetable preparation area, food prep, serving areas, dining rooms, cashiering, food bagging and order expediting.

Duties and Responsibilities

GENERAL FOOD SERVICE WORK :

  • Washing pots, pans, and other preparatory utensils.
  • Cleaning dining rooms, serving areas, kitchens, and other food preparation area.
  • Cleaning and sanitizing all food service equipment.
  • Cleaning floors, walls, ceilings, etc. including dusting, mopping, sweeping, waxing, and stripping.
  • Practicing proper methods of sanitation.
  • Working effectively with other employees.
  • Working effectively with customers.
  • Being courteous and timely.
  • Following written and oral instructions.
  • Following basic dress code and hygiene standards set by University Dining.
  • Handling cash transactions and making change.
  • Operating point-of-sale equipment used in Retail Operations.
  • Delivering and setting up food items at various campus locations.
  • Working at multiple locations and functions, including occasional outdoor events.
  • May need to work in cold storage areas.

FOOD PREPARATION :
  • Complete all basic food preparation tasks in any normal kitchen or prep area which would include cleaning, peeling, dicing, chopping, slicing, dicing, and all other similar tasks related to preparation of raw food items.
  • Complete all basic cooking techniques such as steaming, baking, boiling, deep fat frying, grilling, mixing, and other similar cooking techniques that would arise in a normal commercial kitchen.
  • Complete all basic techniques that may arise in a bakery such as greasing pans, icing cakes, filling muffin tins, filling pie shells and any other basic techniques that would arise in a normal commercial bakery.
  • Unload carts and trucks of food products weighing up to 40 lbs.
  • Push and pull typical food service industry carts containing food products. When assigned to Receiving, the food service worker 1 will be frequently lifting 30 to 40 pounds. This will be required approximately sixty percent (60%) or more of the scheduled hours in Receiving.
  • Read and understand basic recipes and reports used in the food service operation.
  • Work safely with basic food service equipment such as knives, slicers, and mixers.

SAFETY
  • Work safely by using Personal Protective Equipment, maintaining equipment, following safety procedures and policies, etc.
  • Leave the work area clean and functional at the end of shift
  • Be aware of and report any potential safety hazards to supervisor or management immediately
  • Cooperate with safety investigations and audits
  • Attend safety training sessions and maintain licenses, certifications, etc.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability to:
    • learn procedures and practices for food handling, sanitation, cleanliness.
    • provide exemplary customer service to all customers.
    • use food service equipment and utensils
    • use computer cash register.
    • understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Basic math skills for recipe and quantity control.

  • Demonstrated good attendance record.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills.
  • Must follow basic dress code as established by branded concepts and hygiene standards set by University Dining.
  • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal communication skills.

  • May be required to work in cold storage areas.
  • May be required to have a valid driver’s license to drive university van, box truck or motorized skid.
  • Successful interview.
  • Successful completion of three background checks.

    • move over 40 lbs. using standard food service industry carts.
    • stand for long lengths of time.
