Job description

Under the general supervision of ClinicalManager, the teacher is responsible for delivering effective academic instruction to students. As a member of the educational team, willingness to create and organize educational materials to meet the needs of GED students. Ability to maintain records reflecting student deficiencies/strengths/progress, and effectively communicating to MonDay staff the appropriate educational issues relevant to ensuring student success.

  • Conduct GED/academic classes based on the Common Core State Standards in accordance with the procedures of the educational team.
  • Effectively provides an educational environment while following a set schedule of classes with an open roster.
  • Conducts educational classes as assigned and provides individual tutoring as determined by the academic needs of the students.
  • Develops educational materials that will assist students in meeting academic benchmarks, while following the approved course of study.
  • Uses student evaluation methods to ensure student progress and continues to develop individualized materials which may include developmental and remedial materials.
  • Maintains knowledge and skill in the delivery of a variety of instructional methods and strategies to meet the diverse academic educational needs of students.
  • Demonstrates effective classroom management strategies
  • Maintains up-to-date record of students’ progress and attendance which may include dosage hours
  • Maintains pertinent records as assigned for the program effectiveness
  • Prepares reports as requested by Team Leader and/or management
  • Maintains classroom control and discipline and adheres to MonDay’s Behavior Management System
  • Monitors movement in the hallways to assure the safety and security of students.
  • Participates in Education and Clinical team meetings; contributes to discussions; shares research and trends, educational materials, and methods and strategies to strengthen the Education Department.
  • Follows all policies and procedures of the institution to effectively execute the responsibilities of an educator.
  • Availability to successfully complete the MonDay orientation process.
  • Must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field
  • Must have or be able to obtain a current Teacher License or Substitute Teaching Certificate within 30 days of the employee’s start date.
  • Prefer 2 years of successful academic teaching experience in secondary education and/or adult academic education within the past 5 years.
  • Ability to use interpersonal communication skills requiring courtesy and tact necessary to communicate effectively with staff, residents, and outside agencies.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to problem solve, carry out written and oral instructions, recognize unusual or threatening situations and act accordingly.
  • Relevant knowledge and experience with computers in the educational setting.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the GED testing procedures and the Common Core State Standards.
  • Documented and successful experience teaching academic classes based on the Common Core State Standards.
  • Ability and willingness to be an effective member of a multi-disciplinary team in a correctional setting.
  • Possess and maintain a Valid State of Ohio driver’s license.
