Job summary

Valley of the Sun YMCA in Goodyear, AZ is hiring a part-time Swim Instructor to deliver YMCA-aligned lessons, prepare session plans, and build positive connections with students and families.

You will maintain records, follow safety procedures, and model YMCA values while supporting program goals. Minimum age 16, strong communication with members and staff, and readiness to respond calmly in emergencies are required.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 16.
• Ability to demonstrate swim instructor skills per YMCA standards.
• Ability to communicate with members, peers, and supervisors.
• Ability to maintain safety and respond calmly in emergencies.
• Ability to follow YMCA guidelines and schedule sessions.

Responsibilities

• Instructs swimming lessons per Y-USA curriculum.
• Prepares session and lesson plans for all classes.
• Builds relationships with students and parents; encourages volunteer involvement.
• Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules.
• Maintains records (attendance, progress, incidents).
• Follows safety procedures and reports equipment issues.
• Serves as a role model and upholds YMCA values.
