Job summary

YMCA of Greater Houston in Pearland, TX is seeking a part-time Lifeguard and Swim Instructor to ensure safe swimming environments and deliver engaging lessons. The role requires strong safety mindset, ability to enforce rules, and effective supervision of patrons and staff.

You will conduct swim classes, monitor pool conditions, perform chemical testing, and keep precise records while collaborating with teammates to promote youth development and healthy living according to YMCA policies.

Qualifications

• Minimum age of 16 and at least 5 years older than the oldest youth participant.
• Demonstrate Lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards, policies and procedures.
• Demonstrate Swim Instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards, policies and procedures.
• Current YMCA Lifeguard or Red Cross Lifeguard certification and obtain YMCA Lifeguard certification within 30 days of hire.
• Current or must obtain before first scheduled instructional shift: YMCA Swim Instructor Certification and Houston’s Adaptive Swim Lesson Training.
• ASHI certifications for BLS, First Aid, and related trainings as required.

Responsibilities

• Maintains safe swimming conditions in pools and surrounding areas.
• Provides leadership, instruction and motivation for swimming lessons.
• Enforces safety rules and responds to emergencies per YMCA standards.
• Tests pool chemistry and keeps accurate records.
• Performs daily equipment checks and maintains equipment.
• Maintains accurate attendance and progress records for participants.
