Job summary

Jeff Rouse Swim and Sports Center in Stafford, VA, is seeking a part-time Swim Instructor (non-exempt) to teach lessons and support aquatics operations. The role reports to the Assistant Aquatics Director and Aquatics Director, with duties spanning lesson scheduling, safety, and customer service in a busy pool environment.

Qualifications

• Education and/or Experience: One year certification from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; write simple correspondence; present information.
• Mathematical Skills: Basic math with money and measurement.
• Reasoning Ability: Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions and solve problems.
• Computer Skills: Working knowledge of Microsoft Office; familiarity with scheduling software.

Responsibilities

• Know the pool schedule and promote lesson packages to JRSSC members; enter lessons in scheduling software.
• Participate in regular In-Service Trainings and adapt teaching approaches to each participant.
• Communicate progress with participants and guardians as appropriate; ensure safety per emergency plans.
• Enforce all aquatic facility policies, rules and regulations and complete records/reports accurately.
• Able to work in a wet pool environment and in a team setting; strong customer service skills.
