Job summary

The University of Texas Medical Branch in League City, TX is seeking a qualified Surgical Technologist to perform direct and indirect technical tasks for patients before, during, and after surgical procedures. You will assist surgeons and nurses to ensure a safe operating room, proper equipment function, and high patient safety throughout invasive surgeries.

The role requires completion of a Surgical Technologist Program or military training in surgical technology, current BLS, and certification

Qualifications

• Completion of a Surgical Technologist Program.
• Current certification as a Surgical Technologist or obtain the certification within 6 months of employment.
• Military training program in surgical technology or Public Health Service training.
• Basic Life Support certification.

Responsibilities

• Checks supplies and equipment for the surgical procedure.
• Scrubs in the prescribed manner and dons sterile gown and gloves.
• Gowns and gloves surgeon and assistants.
• Performs sponge, needle, and instrument counts.
• Assist in positioning, skin preparation and draping of patient.
• Passes instruments required during surgery to the surgeon.
• Maintains the highest standard of sterile technique during the procedure.
• Assists with postoperative dressings.
• Assists circulator or scrub person in all specialties.
• Cleans and prepares surgical instruments for terminal sterilization.
