As part of Student Life, the Student Involvement and Leadership Center fosters opportunities for students to build community, develop leadership skills, and bring their ideas to life through campus engagement. The center supports more than 750 student organizations and helps students create memorable events and initiatives that shape the IU experience. This position supports the campus space reservations process, helping student leaders navigate event planning and ensuring they have the tools, guidance, and support needed to host successful and responsible events on campus.

Job Summary

The Space Reservations Assistant supports the student organization event planning process by assisting with front-line customer service, intake of reservation requests, and maintaining space reservation documentation. This position helps create a welcoming and organized environment for students seeking to plan meetings, programs, and events on campus.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Assists with the intake and review of space reservation forms, ensuring all required information is submitted.
  • Be available to assist with space reservation inquiries from students planning events on campus.
  • Provides clear and courteous guidance to students about campus event policies and reservation procedures.
  • Maintains organized records of space reservation requests and update databases and spreadsheets accurately.
  • Collaborates with the Campus Space Reservations Specialist and fellow student interns to ensure smooth office operations.
  • Offers hands-on experience in a professional, fast-paced campus office, providing valuable exposure to the behind-the-scenes coordination of events and student engagement. As a Student Assistant, you will:
    • Strengthens your communication and customer service skills by interacting with students, staff, and campus departments.
    • Learns the fundamentals of event planning and logistics through real-time support of space reservations and university policies.
    • Builds confidence managing administrative tasks, databases, and shared responsibilities in a collaborative office environment.
    • Gains experience navigating complex processes, problem-solving, and supporting university operationsall transferable to careers in higher education, business, public service, hospitality, and more.
    • Be mentored by full-time staff and exposed to team-based planning efforts.

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Additional Information

Looking to hire for the 2025-26 academic year, however if you can begin sooner that is preferred.

Advertised Salary

$12.25 per hour

Work Hours

Office hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
This position will work approximately 10-12 hours per week.
