Job summary

Central Piedmont Community College seeks a compassionate counselor to provide short-term mental health and academic counseling to students, engage in crisis interventions, and connect learners with wraparound support services on campus.

Qualifications

Job description

Provide short-term mental health and academic counseling to Central Piedmont students. Engage in mental health crisis interventions as needed. Assist students in accessing a variety of wraparound support services. Conduct trainings, workshops, and outreach efforts. Assist students in determining educational, vocational, and personal goals. Participate in cross-unit collaborations to facilitate student success.

  1. Provide personal counseling for students to support mental health, emotional well-being, positive behaviors, and healthy relationships that foster student success and personal wellness; engage incrisisinterventions; referstudentsto campusorcommunityresources asappropriate;
  1. Counselstudentsonovercoming individualacademicchallengesandfacilitatereferralsforadditional academicandtutoring assistance;
  1. Maintain files on activities; gather and record information in order to track progress of individual students;
  1. Develop and conduct workshops, groups, outreach efforts, and special events that promote student mental health and encourage help-seeking behaviors;
  1. Consult with faculty and staff regarding student concerns; conduct trainings to promote mental health awareness and knowledge of resources;
  1. Advise students holistically, including career choices, curriculum options, academic planning, college policies, personalassistance, academic support, and community resources;
  1. Perform other duties as assigned.

Master's Degree in counseling discipline, including Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Guidance Counseling, Educational Counseling, Social Work, or Marriage and Family Therapy, and one (1) year full-time counseling experience, or equivalent part-time experience (including masters-level internship).

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in a higher education institution; clinical license in North Carolina (e.g., LCMHC/A, LCSW/A); bilingual/multilingual

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Worker Characteristics
  • Knowledge of counseling theory, techniques, and legal/ethical practices
  • Knowledge of student development theory and academic success strategies
  • Strong communication skills, including public speaking and presentation skills
  • Proficiency with MS Office programs and videoconferencing software
  • Ability to work well with individuals with diverse backgrounds and perspectives
  • Flexibility and commitment to teamwork
Working Conditions

Typical office environment; infrequently lifting and carrying items up to 10 lbs.; infrequently traveling between buildings on campus or to other campuses; infrequently twisting or bending at the waist or reaching overhead; frequently listening to and talking with students, faculty and other staff members in person, by telephone, or in videoconference; frequently sitting at a desk or workstation using a computer display, keyboard, and mouse
