Responsibilities
Summary
The Senior Transportation Officer serves as a lead worker assigned by the Assistant Director, Transportation in high-risk operations and high-profile federal government transportation contracts. The position requires a CDL Class B with a ('P') passenger endorsement. It involves securely transporting detainees between destinations and ensuring that vehicles used are safe and properly maintained. Additionally, this role supports management in resolving unexpected issues efficiently.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist management when unexpected problems arise during detainee transportation, developing effective solutions.
- Review vehicle inspection reports, develop summaries, and note common issues, suggesting solutions as needed.
- Ensure all permits and licenses for assigned vehicles are current.
- Verify safety equipment before trips and notify management of any issues.
- Accurately track DOT HOS using Electronic Logging Devices.
- Assist with interviewing and screening Transport Officer applicants, if required.
- Review all relevant paperwork and reports thoroughly and submit according to policies.
- Ensure all transportation missions meet or exceed safety standards per PBNDS/FBNDS guidelines.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; applicable state employment requisites.
- At least 21 years old.
- U.S. citizen with a valid driver’s license.
- Three years of law enforcement-related experience, including two years in a supervisory role or completion of GEO's Supervision Training Course (certificate required).
- Demonstrated leadership skills.
- State Firearms License and State Security Guard License.
- Completed an approved training program in Corrections, Law Enforcement, or Military with certification.
- Clean driving record with no preventable accidents or suspensions for the past three years, and no DWI/DUI or more than two moving violations.
- Pass a company and DOT drug and alcohol test.
- Ability to work overtime and travel extensively, including overnight stays.
- Able to handle physical and mental stress, and work extended hours up to 16 within 24 hours.
- Reliable and punctual attendance.
- Physically alert and able to pass a background check.
- Proficient with computers and relevant software.
- May need to obtain a USDOT medical examiner certificate ('medical card') after hire.
