Responsibilities
Summary

The Senior Transportation Officer leads high-risk operations and federal transportation contracts, securely transports detainees, maintains vehicles, and supports management with problem-solving during transportation activities.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist management with unexpected issues during detainee transport, developing solutions.
  • Review vehicle inspection reports, summarize findings, and suggest improvements.
  • Ensure all permits and licenses are current for assigned vehicles.
  • Verify safety equipment before trips; notify management of issues.
  • Provide security during offsite medical appointments and hospital visits.
  • Manage visitor access and restrict unauthorized entry.
  • Document incidents such as security breaches or conflicts.
  • Use verbal de-escalation and physical intervention if necessary.
  • Track DOT HOS using Electronic Logging Devices.
  • Participate in interviewing and screening Transport Officer applicants.
  • Complete and submit reports accurately and timely.
  • Ensure all missions meet or exceed safety standards per PBNDS/FBNDS.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent; valid state requisites.
  • At least 21 years old.
  • U.S. citizenship.
  • Three years of law enforcement experience, including two as a lead supervisor or completion of GEO’s Supervision Training.
  • Leadership experience.
  • Certification in Corrections, Law Enforcement, or Military.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license with a clean record (no preventable accidents, suspensions, DWI/DUI, or more than two moving violations in 3 years).
  • Pass company and DOT drug/alcohol tests.
  • Ability to work overtime and travel with overnight stays.
  • Handle physical and mental stress, be punctual, alert, and able to work up to 16 hours within 24 hours.
  • Pass background checks and be willing to travel on short notice.
  • Proficient with computers and relevant software.
  • May need to obtain a USDOT medical examiner certificate after hire.
