Responsibilities
Summary
The Senior Transportation Officer leads high-risk operations and federal transportation contracts, securely transports detainees, maintains vehicles, and supports management with problem-solving during transportation activities.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist management with unexpected issues during detainee transport, developing solutions.
- Review vehicle inspection reports, summarize findings, and suggest improvements.
- Ensure all permits and licenses are current for assigned vehicles.
- Verify safety equipment before trips; notify management of issues.
- Provide security during offsite medical appointments and hospital visits.
- Manage visitor access and restrict unauthorized entry.
- Document incidents such as security breaches or conflicts.
- Use verbal de-escalation and physical intervention if necessary.
- Track DOT HOS using Electronic Logging Devices.
- Participate in interviewing and screening Transport Officer applicants.
- Complete and submit reports accurately and timely.
- Ensure all missions meet or exceed safety standards per PBNDS/FBNDS.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; valid state requisites.
- At least 21 years old.
- U.S. citizenship.
- Three years of law enforcement experience, including two as a lead supervisor or completion of GEO’s Supervision Training.
- Leadership experience.
- Certification in Corrections, Law Enforcement, or Military.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license with a clean record (no preventable accidents, suspensions, DWI/DUI, or more than two moving violations in 3 years).
- Pass company and DOT drug/alcohol tests.
- Ability to work overtime and travel with overnight stays.
- Handle physical and mental stress, be punctual, alert, and able to work up to 16 hours within 24 hours.
- Pass background checks and be willing to travel on short notice.
- Proficient with computers and relevant software.
- May need to obtain a USDOT medical examiner certificate after hire.
