ResponsibilitiesSummaryThe Senior Transportation Officer leads high-risk operations and federal government transportation contracts, securely transporting detainees and ensuring vehicle safety and maintenance. This role also supports management in resolving unexpected issues efficiently.
Primary Duties And Responsibilities- Assist management in resolving unexpected problems during detainee transportation and develop effective solutions.
- Review vehicle inspection reports, summarize findings, and suggest improvements.
- Ensure all permits and licenses for vehicles are current.
- Verify safety equipment before trips and notify management of issues.
- Provide security during offsite medical appointments and transports.
- Manage visitor access and prevent unauthorized entry.
- Document incidents such as security breaches and accidents.
- Use verbal de-escalation and physical intervention techniques when necessary.
- Track DOT HOS using Electronic Logging Devices.
- Assist in interviewing and screening Transport Officer applicants.
- Review and submit reports accurately and timely.
- Ensure all missions comply with safety standards like PBNDS/FBNDS.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QualificationsMinimum Requirements- High school diploma or equivalent; applicable state employment requisites.
- At least 21 years old.
- U.S. Citizen.
- Three years of law enforcement experience, including two years in a supervisory role, or completion of GEO’s Supervision Training Course with certification.
- Demonstrated leadership skills.
- Certification in Corrections, Law Enforcement, or Military, with proof of training completion.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license with no recent preventable accidents or serious violations in the past three years.
- Pass company and DOT drug and alcohol tests.
- Ability to work overtime and travel extensively, often overnight.
- Capable of handling physical and mental stress, working long hours, and maintaining punctuality.
- Physically alert and able to work up to 16 hours within a 24-hour period.
- Respectful, flexible, and able to command authority with inmates, detainees, and staff.
- Clear background check for company and federal clearance.
- Willing to travel on short notice.
- Proficient with computers and relevant software.
- May need to obtain a USDOT medical examiner’s certificate after hire.
