Job summary

UnityPoint Health is seeking a compassionate and motivated Registered Nurse (RN) to join the Behavioral Health/Counseling Specialty Clinic in West Des Moines, IA. This part-time position (24 hours/week) supports patients through triage, education, and coordinated care within a collaborative clinical team.

The role requires an active RN license (state of practice or compact) with ADN required and BSN preferred; prior behavioral health experience is a plus but not required.

Qualifications

• RN license active/unencumbered in the state of practice or compact license.
• All RN experience levels considered; behavioral health experience a plus but not required.
• ADN required; BSN preferred.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate incoming patient calls and clinical concerns to assess symptoms, determine urgency, and identify appropriate next steps.
• Provide telephone triage and guide patients to the appropriate level of care or follow-up for behavioral health concerns.
• Coordinate care for patients with acute or complex behavioral health needs and communicate concerns promptly to the clinical team.
• Collaborate with counselors, behavioral health providers, and other healthcare professionals to support timely, coordinated patient care.
• Educate patients and families on treatment plans, medications, symptom management, and available behavioral health resources.
• Provide ongoing support and resources tailored to each patient’s individual needs and care plan.
• Accurately document patient interactions, assessments, interventions, and care plans in the electronic health record (EHR).
• Track patient needs and coordinate follow-up care to promote continuity, safety, and positive outcomes.

Education

Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (RN) – Active/unencumbered RN license in state of practice or compact license including state of practice.
• All levels of RN experience will be considered. Prior experience in behavioral health, mental health, counseling, or specialty care is a plus, but not required.
• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
• For positions within UnityPoint Clinic, team members may be required to work at or float to other locations to support optimized staffing.
