Job summary

Southwest Tennessee Community College invites applications for a part-time Adjunct Instructor of Sociology in the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences. The role involves delivering instruction across day/evening/weekend sessions at multiple STCC locations.

Minimum qualifications include a Master’s in the teaching discipline (or 18 graduate hours) and 2 years of higher education teaching or 1 year teaching with 3 years in the field.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in the teaching discipline or master's degree in another discipline with 18 hours of graduate work in the teaching discipline.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and delivers instruction on topics in Sociology.
• Compiles, administers, evaluates and grades students' class work, laboratory work, assignments, tests, and papers fairly and consistently; keeps students informed about their progress through prompt grading.
• Develops curricula and instructional material such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts.
• Maintains office hours for students seeking academic advice, assists in student recruitment and retention; assists students with course-related problems outside the classroom.
• Maintains accurate student attendance records, grades, and other required records in compliance with FERPA.
• Attends all faculty meetings, college assemblies, professional development and orientation activities, and other meetings as called by the President, Dean or Department Chair.
• Keeps abreast of developments in the field by reading current literature, talking with colleagues, and participating in professional conferences.
• Participates in departmental and college committees; provides outreach service to the community.
• May perform other duties as assigned by Department Head/Dean.
