Job summary

Penn State Universitys Materials Research Institute seeks a part-time SCIA Laboratory Intern to support silicon carbide growth and related processing steps. The role involves assisting with synthesis, slicing, polishing and material characterization while following safety protocols and lab procedures.

The ideal candidate is a high school graduate with interest in a research setting, able to work up to 20 hours weekly and lift up to 50 lbs.

Qualifications

• High school graduate required.
• Experience in a lab or research environment preferred.
• Silicon carbide synthesis and processing experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Help lab staff and graduate students with synthesis, slicing, polishing and characterization of silicon carbide materials.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations in the lab.
• Assist with equipment maintenance and service activities as needed.
• Follow PPE and health/safety protocols and report problems to staff.
