Job summary

The Pennsylvania State University’s Materials Research Institute (MRI) invites applications for a SCIA-STRIVE Laboratory Intern to assist with silicon carbide growth, synthesis, slicing, polishing and characterization.

The intern will work with lab staff and graduate students, follow health, safety, and environmental protocols, and gain hands-on experience in a dynamic research environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• U.S. military veteran encouraged to apply.
• Able to work up to 20 hours per week.
• Follow Penn State EHS training and regulatory requirements.
• Experience in a research environment; silicon carbide knowledge preferred.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for a scientific setting.
• Able to adapt to a dynamic lab environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist SCIA lab staff and graduate students with synthesis, slicing, polishing, and characterization of silicon carbide materials.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
• Follow health and safety protocols and report problems to track progress.
• Learn new equipment and test methodologies as needed.
• Help maintain a clean lab environment and assist with equipment maintenance.
