Job summary

Hotel Magdalena in Austin, TX is seeking a friendly Server to take orders, serve food and beverages, and enhance guest experiences. You will greet guests, describe menus, and recommend wine while ensuring tax and safety standards are followed. A strong communicator with hospitality experience and POS/PMS familiarity is desired.

The position supports team goals and contributes to the restaurant’s culture, values, and reputation. High school diploma or GED and basic math skills are required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 6 months related hospitality/service experience.
• Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand the primary language of the workplace.
• Ability to write routine reports and communicate effectively.
• Familiarity with POS and PMS systems is preferred.
• Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

Responsibilities

• Escort customers to their tables and present menus to patrons.
• Describe and recommend items, and answer questions about the menu.
• Explain how items are prepared and describe ingredients and methods.
• Check IDs to ensure minimum age for alcohol service.
• Take and enter orders accurately for kitchen transmission.
• Inform guests of daily specials and provide wine recommendations.
• Maintain standards of operations and support other tasks as needed.

Summary

A server will exceed the expectations of all guests in a multitude of tasks that include but are not limited to taking orders and serving food and beverages to patrons at tables in dining establishment. The person having this position must have good communication skills, the ability to resolve conflict and a thorough understanding of Bunkhouse policies. All Bunkhouse employees are expected to greet all guests in close proximity and make each feel important by providing a genuine welcome. Furthermore, Servers must develop and maintain the company’s culture, values, and reputation in the public eye, and with all staff, guests, vendors, and partners.

Key Responsibilities

• Adhere to all standards of operations, policies and procedures, manuals, training material, memos, and verbal instruction
• Escort customers to their tables
• Present menus to patrons and answer questions about menu items, making recommendations upon request
• Describe and recommend wines to customers
• Check patrons' identification to ensure that they meet minimum age requirements for consumption of alcoholic beverages
• Explain how various menu items are prepared, describing ingredients and cooking methods
• Serve food or beverages to patrons, and prepare or serve specialty dishes at tables as required
• Inform customers of daily specials
• Write patrons' food orders on order slips, memorize orders, or enter orders into computers for transmittal to kitchen staff

Based upon fluctuating demands of the operation and to exceed customer expectations, it may be necessary to perform a multitude of different functions not specifically related to this position. This person may be expected to perform other tasks and duties as needed or as directed. Furthermore, employee responsibilities and job descriptions are subject to review and revision.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or general education degree (GED)
• Six (6) months related experience in hospitality or service industry
• Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand the primary language(s) of the workplace
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
• Ability to speak effectively before groups of co-workers and sister property staff
• Ability to understand other computer programs (i.e. Property Management System and Point of Sale)
• Ability to apply concepts of math including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
