Job description

Keep grounds of the Municipal Museums and other designated areas clean and maintained. Clean and repair facilities and equipment used in the operation of the scope of work.

• Capable of operating various lawn and garden equipment (gas and electric) safely and effectively including a zero turn riding lawn mower.
• Mow and edge grass; plant, fertilize, and water trees, flowers and grass; and clean grounds by picking up trash.
• Rake and bag leaves for disposal.
• Pull weeds and grass burs, and unwanted tree sprouts.
• Maintain the yucca plants.
• Perform basic maintenance on the irrigation system.
• Prune trees and remove mistletoe from trees.
• Clean sidewalks, walls and curbs as well as the equipment storage areas to maintain a well-manicured appearance.
• Inspect grounds for maintenance needs and be able to create an action plan.
• Clean and perform preventative maintenance of lawn equipment.
• Perform related duties as required.

Completion of a high school diploma or the equivalent with an additional one year of experience in grounds keeping or maintenance work; or any combination of relevant education and experience that provides the following:

Knowledge of:

• The tools, equipment, materials, and methods used in routine grounds maintenance.
• Methods of basic skills pertaining to operations of mowing, weed eater operations.

Ability to:

• Read, write, and comprehend daily instructions.
• Perform basic plumbing, carpentry, painting, and gardening tasks.
• Operate equipment skillfully and safely.
• Understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Physical Requirements:

• Continuously stand and walk during the shift.
• Occasionally climb ladders, stairs, poles, scaffolding, and other inclined surfaces.
• Frequently bend and kneel.
• Continuously lift and carry up to 25 pounds.

• Occasionally lift and carry up to 100 pounds.
• Occasionally push and pull objects.
