Job summary

Churchill Downs Incorporated operates Colonial Downs Group in Virginia and seeks a Security Officer to deliver exceptional guest service, ensure safety, and uphold house rules across the property. You will monitor activity, respond to incidents, and maintain a professional presence for guests and team members.

Responsibilities include incident reporting, access control, crowd management, and cooperation with supervisors while staying compliant with VRC rules.

Qualifications

• Must be eighteen years of age or older and able to pass background checks.
• English communication skills required in speaking and writing.
• At least 1 year in customer service, security, or related field.
• Basic computer skills including Word.
• Possess a valid racing license, where applicable.
• Possess a valid driver's license with at least 3 years experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide a high level of guest service to guests, team members, and vendors.
• Ensure safety of all guests and team members on the property.
• Record investigation and incident reports promptly.
• Assist with transfer of money throughout the property.
• Patrol property during shift to ensure safety.
• Enforce property rules and Virginia Racing Commission regulations.
• Stand posts in various locations for extended times.
• Diffuse potential problems and assist in emergencies.
• Control access to the property and restricted areas.
• Respond to calls for assistance immediately.
• Maintain radio contact with base during shifts.
• Check identification for gaming floor admittance and greet guests professionally.
• Maintain crowd control and report procedural violations.
• Report to supervisor on day-to-day activities.
• Attend meetings and training sessions.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for providing a high level of guest service to all guests, team members, and vendors. Responsiblefor ensuring the safety and security of the property and its patrons. Responds to Security incidents and provides a visible securitypresence inside and outside of the facility. Observes patrons participating in gambling activities to detect and respond to infractionsof house rules. Will maintain a high level of professionalism, customer service, and integrity while representing the Company in allinteractions with guests.

Compensation: $17.00 per hour

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Responsible for providing a high level of guest service to all guests, Team Members, and vendors.
• Responsible for the safety of all guests and Team Members of the property.
• Records investigation and incident reports in a timely manner.
• Assists with the transfer of money throughout the property.
• Patrols property during shift to ensure safety.
• Maintains property rules, policies and regulations are being followed set by the Company and the Virginia Racing Commission (VRC).
• Stands posts in various locations for extended times as assigned.
• Controls and diffuses potential problems and assists Team Members and guests in emergencies.
• Controls access to the property and restricted areas.
• Responds to calls for assistance immediately.
• Maintains radio contact with base during assigned shift.
• Checks identification for gaming floor admittance, greeting guests and vendors positively and professionally.
• Maintains crowd control, ensuring a friendly environment and defusing guest incidents.
• Composes written reports; observes, handles, and reports procedural violations and illegal activity.
• Reports to supervisor/manager on day-to-day activities.
• Attends periodic meetings and training sessions.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Must be eighteen (18) years of age or older.
• Successful completion of training programs as required by jurisdiction and property.
• Ability to communicate and comprehend information and ideas in spoken and written English.
• Ability to accept, prioritize, and follow through on work direction.
• Ability to function well in a fast-paced and at times stressful environment.
• Ability to remain calm, utilizing rational thinking and decision- making by employing conflict-resolution.
• Ability to work with both guests and fellow Team Members in a professional and courteous manner, promoting positive customer relations for all by providing prompt, courteous and efficient service.
• Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Minimum of one (1) year experience in customer service, law enforcement, military, or security, or pursuing a degree in law enforcement, criminal justice, or a related field. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
• Basic computer skills required, such as knowledge of Word and ability to learn and utilize menu-driven programs.
• Must obtain valid racing license, where applicable.
• May be required to hold a valid driver’s license with a minimum of three year’s driving experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS

• While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member is frequently required to sit or stand for extended amounts of time; walk for extended amounts of time; use hands to finger, reach, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.
• The Team Member may also be required to lift, push, and pull up to 25 lbs.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
• Team Member will be subject to an environment with flashing lights.
• The Team Member is subjected to circulate throughout the assigned areas, including the smoking area, actively observing players and functioning of machines.
