The Chicago High School for the Arts (ChiArts) develops the next generation of artistically gifted, diverse scholar artists through intensive pre-professional training in the arts, combined with a comprehensive college preparatory curriculum. The school approaches student development through a whole-student approach and a continuous learning environment for all staff to enhance their understanding of our scholar-artists. We strive to continually improve our practices to serve all students to the best of our abilities.

Qualifications
Position Summary

ChiArts security team members assist with supervising students throughout the building. They are expected to establish trusting relationships with students and colleagues, and address student misbehavior while adhering to school policies and procedures. Responsibilities include patrolling school grounds, escorting students, supervising building entrances and exits, and completing daily safety checks. In cooperation with the Dean of Students, support staff, and teachers; security personnel respond to reports of wrongdoing, investigate student rule-breaking, and support the dean of students and/or administration to promote good student conduct. They will report incidents and provide written documentation. Security team members report directly to the Dean of Students.

Qualifications
  • Experience working with students aged 12-18 in educational or co-curricular settings
  • Ability to follow school policies and enforce rules to promote a safe school environment
  • Caring, enthusiastic attitude with quick decision-making skills regarding safety and security
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and positive interpersonal rapport
  • Familiarity with Google Email and Microsoft Word; ability to check accounts daily
  • Ability to communicate effectively with faculty and staff, and share the building with others
  • Successful completion of restraint training and CPR or willingness to learn
  • Familiarity with restorative justice disciplinary approaches or willingness to learn
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams
  • Adaptability and willingness to improve in changing situations
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Responsibilities
  • Promote and embody the ChiArts vision, mission, and educational approach
  • Ensure students and staff fulfill their expectations and duties
  • Monitor student movement via cameras, hall patrols, and restroom checks
  • Provide information to relevant parties and coordinate with staff to ensure students are in appropriate locations
  • Assist the principal and assistant principal as needed
  • Build rapport with local businesses and community stakeholders to ensure student safety during passages
