Part-Time Seasonal Maintenance Worker - City of Grimes

Under the general supervision of the Sports Facilities Operations Specialist, operates a variety of light and medium duty equipment for the maintenance and mowing activities related to athletic fields at the Hy-Vee Multiplex, North Complex and South Complex. The principal duties of this class are performed at the Hy-Vee Multiplex, North Complex and South Complex. Willing to work weekends and/or holidays when needed.

Responsibilities:

• Operates various vehicles and equipment such as mowers, field groomers, and hand tools.
• Helps conduct turf grass maintenance including soil prep and seeding.
• Performs trash pickup, restroom cleaning, mowing, and other facility and site maintenance tasks as assigned.
• Assures that the City’s missions, goals, and objectives are fully initiated and supported.
• Drives truck, mower, or utility vehicle as needed.
• Attends safety meetings and seminars as required and promotes workplace safety. Follows all City and department safety policies and procedures. May work independently with minimal supervision.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

• Some High School Education

Licenses/Certifications:

• Valid driver’s license with access to transportation with insurance at required state levels to conduct business throughout the relevant areas.

Knowledge and Skills:

• General knowledge of tools and equipment. Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
• Ability to drive a pick-up truck, field groomer, and mower.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

• Medium work, exerting up to 50lbs of force no more than at one time, up to 25lbs of force frequently to move objects.
• Stand or sit, walk, use hands/fingers, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, push/pull, reach and repetitive motion.
• Exposure to extreme temperatures, wet/humid conditions, dust, fumes, noise, vibration, mechanical hazards.
