Job Overview

Provides prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service. Prepares merchandise for display case. Has knowledge of and differentiates various types of seafood, with the ability to order seafood and set the seafood display case.

Primary Responsibilities
  1. Provides prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern, and patience in all customer interactions and treating customers as the most important people in the store.
  2. Smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner, whether the encounter takes place in the employee’s designated department or elsewhere in the store.
  3. Answers the department telephone promptly when called upon, and provides friendly, helpful service to customers who call.
  4. Conveys customer special orders to appropriate personnel.
  5. Works with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
  6. Reviews the status and appearance of department merchandise for freshness.
  7. Ensures appropriate stocking of fresh and smoked meat/pork/poultry cases, coolers, and freezers by rotating and replenishing product. Checks invoices against delivered product.
  8. Weighs, dates, labels, and wraps fresh meat.
  9. Responsible for proper inventory control (pricing, ordering, stocking).
  10. Reports out-of-stock products to appropriate personnel.
  11. Understands and practices proper sanitation procedures and ensures the work area is always clean and neat.
  12. Maintains strict adherence to department and company guidelines related to personal hygiene and dress.
  13. Reports to work when scheduled and on time.
  14. Ensures that all food is handled in accordance with local health department regulations.
Skills And Abilities
  1. The ability to work for prolonged periods in refrigerated and frozen environments.
  2. The ability to work in an environment with continuous high noise levels.
  3. Must have the ability to carry out detailed written or verbal instructions.
  4. Ability to do simple addition and subtraction, copying figures, counting, and recording.
  5. Ability to program weighing scales.
  6. Ability to identify different types of seafood.
  7. Ability to lift up to 80 pounds from floor to a table 48 inches high.
  8. Ability to stock, rotate, and clean display cases.
  9. Visual requirements include vision from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet, with depth perception, color vision (ability to distinguish colors), and a broad field of vision.
  10. Must be able to work shifts of varying lengths and times, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Good judgment is required, as there may be times when direct supervision is not immediately available.
