Job summary

Lone Star College-Montgomery in Conroe, TX is seeking a Part-Time Scribe/Reader to provide reader/scribe services in lectures, discussions, and tests, promoting students' right to communication equity in the classroom. Job Description
PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The primary purpose of the Part Time Scribe/Reader is to provideReader/Scribe services at in-class lectures, discussions, andtests, and potentially a variety of other situations.Readers/Scribes support and promote all students' right tocommunication equity in the classroom.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  1. Takes lecture notes/dictation for students in a classroomsetting (may include, but is not limited to, notes from classlecture, video/audio presentations, handouts, and writteninformation presented on the board)
  2. Fills-in and writes-out test answers for students at theirinstruction
  3. Takes student work and verbally relay information in aclassroom setting
  4. Maintains professional boundaries in class and duringtests
  5. Supports and promotes all faculty and students' rights tocommunication equity in the classroom and work environment
  6. Learns to use and demonstrates adaptive technology tostudents
  7. Converts and edits academic media
  8. Responsible for other reasonable, related duties asassigned

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably todo the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending;carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; ordriving an automobile. No special physical demands are required toperform the work.

WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:
  • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in aMicrosoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other generaloffice equipment
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed tocarry out the functions of the position
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimalexposure to safety hazards
  • Hours will vary based on student/department needs. May requireevening and weekend hours
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or GED
Salary

Hourly Pay Rate is $15.60
