Qualifications

• Must hold or be eligible to obtain a NC School Social Worker license.
• Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree from an Accredited Social Work Program.
• Knowledge of school organizations and their communities.
• Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and school staff in written and oral form.

Responsibilities

• Provide casework, group work, and community services to support rehabilitation and adjustment of students with special needs (K-12).
• Provide transportation for medical appointments and evaluations when no other community resources are available.
• Provide counseling services to students and families.
• Provide consultation and coordination services to school personnel and community agencies to assist students and families.
• Plan and participate in joint planning and case management with community agencies such as social services, mental health, and juvenile services.
• Advocate for students and parents to meet educational, social, emotional, and material needs as per laws and policies.
• Serve as liaison in delinquent and undisciplined cases with Juvenile Services and juvenile court activities.
• Prepare petitions and present pertinent information in Criminal Court on parents per NC Compulsory School Attendance Law.
• Maintain casework records for each student referred and document services.
• Maintain professional practice and development.
• Support and implement Board of Education policy and communicate to students, families, and community members as necessary.
• Employee may be assigned other duties by supervisor.
